Defending the Work of Immigration Lawyers

A recent White House directive pointed to the immigration system as “replete with examples of unscrupulous behavior by attorneys and law firms.”
As an immigration lawyer, I want to address this statement.
I know that my colleagues and I are doing the quiet, difficult, often emotional work of helping our clients navigate an incredibly complex system.
We help reunite families.
We guide employers through compliance.
We advocate for clients whose lives depend on our work.
To call such work unscrupulous because it seeks to find a lawful pathway for relief misses the point.
My job is to
Understand the law,
Advise my clients based on the law and
Represent them zealously and with integrity.
I will continue to do that work, regardless of who is in the presidential administration.
