New USCIS Rule: Submit Medical Exam with Green Card Application

Green card applicants must comply with a new USCIS requirement to avoid rejection.

USCIS now requires certain applicants filing for a green card (Form I-485) to submit their medical examination results (Form I-693) along with their Form I-485. Not submitting the medical exam results with the Adjustment of Status application could risk rejection.

This change is intended to make the application process more efficient by ensuring all necessary documents are submitted upfront.

To comply with this updated requirement:

❖ Schedule an immigration medical exam and update your vaccination records with an approved doctor (referred to as a “civil surgeon”). You can find a list of approved doctors using the USCIS tool linked here: https://www.uscis.gov/tools/find-a-civil-surgeon

❖ Confirm that your medical form (Form I-693) is properly completed and signed by the civil surgeon by requesting a copy of the signed form from the doctor's office---since the doctor's office will give you a sealed envelope with the results in it and you cannot open the envelope.

❖ Submit both your green card application (Form I-485) and medical form (Form I-693) together.

Preparing ahead will help you avoid unnecessary delays or potential rejections.
