October Visa Bulletin

The U.S. government releases the visa bulletin each month, showing which applicants can move forward with their immigration case—and October is a crucial month. Here’s why:

October is when the U.S. Department of State resets available immigration numbers.

This reset can mean new opportunities for those waiting to move forward in their green card or visa application.

However, this year’s October bulletin shows less forward movement than expected. Here are the key takeaways:

❖  Employment-based (EB) visas:

-  EB-2 (advanced degrees) and EB-3 (skilled workers) moved forward with a two-year jump forward for EB-3 worldwide in final action dates (when applicants become eligible to receive their green card). Notably, EB-2 and EB-3 for India advanced.

-  EB-3 China: The priority date moved backward, meaning these applicants will have to wait longer before their applications can move forward.

❖  Family-based visas: There was very little change this month.

❖  Religious worker visas: This category is expiring in September 2024 and is listed as “unavailable” on the final action date chart—unless Congress chooses to extend the category. If it does, the category could reopen immediately.

Understanding where you stand is crucial for your immigration journey.
